ASICS Seville

For ASICS, we turned a classic relay race into a data-driven performance experience. Set on the iconic Plaza de América in Seville, 70 teams of three runners competed across a 10k relay, each one chasing not just the finish line, but their own personal best.

At the heart of the experience were 70 custom batons, each fitted with LED lights and a Wi-Fi microcontroller. I built the backend that these batons communicated with in real time, translating each runner’s live pace into color, letting them know at a glance whether they were ahead of, matching, or falling short of their team PB.

Lap counting and timing were all managed through an integration with RaceResult. The backend also sent live triggers to Resolume, driving the visual content in sync with the race as it unfolded. As a runner entered their final lap, their baton shifted to a flashing red, a visceral nudge to give everything they had left. A large billboard displayed each team’s name, PBs, and live scores, keeping the crowd engaged throughout.
