Renault R5 Interactive Visualizer – Driving the Future in Real-Time

A photoreal, interactive journey through the rebirth of a design icon – streamed directly from the cloud.

As Technical Lead and Developer, I helped design and build a next-generation car visualizer platform for Renault Group, redefining how customers interact with and customize vehicles online. Built entirely in Unreal Engine 5.3 and delivered via Google Cloud Pixel Streaming, the visualizer offered an immersive, high-fidelity experience accessible on any device seamlessly integrated into Renault’s official websites across multiple markets.

This platform launched with the iconic Renault 5, reimagined as a fully electric city car. Users could virtually drive the vehicle through a cinematic recreation of the TV commercial, transitioning from a historic French city to open countryside, highlighting the R5’s agility and versatility.

Key Features

  • Freeze Mode – A dynamic feature halting the car mid-motion, allowing for deep customization, stunning visual effects, and interactive detail exploration.
  • Hotspot System – Contextual UI providing real-time information on features like charging ports, dashboard tech, and lighting.
  • Immersive Environments – Handcrafted city and rural scenes built to mirror the TV spot, including realistic lighting, shadows, and materials.
  • Circular UI Design – Custom interface supporting over 200 customization combinations, tailored to Renault and Dacia’s branding.

Scalable Across Brands

This same visualizer architecture powered multiple vehicle experiences across Renault Group’s portfolio, including:

  • Dacia Duster
  • Dacia Spring
  • Renault R4

Each variation was uniquely styled and localized, maintaining consistent performance and UX across devices and markets, thanks to a robust cloud-based architecture and tight integration with Unreal Engine’s rendering pipeline.
